The moment you realize a thief has managed to break in and steal something important from your truck can be heart-wrenching, but if you see cinderblocks and notice your wheels are missing, your livelihood is at stake.
While certain stolen items may be easier to trace down and possibly regain, rims and wheels are much more difficult to get back as properly identifying your stolen set can be a huge challenge.
While we all know that an inactive work truck is not generating revenue for your business, investing in the right set of wheel locks is a small fee that can ultimately save your business more money in the long run, should you have to purchase new rims or wheels.
At Camco Wheel & Axle, our Pharr truck accessories experts know a thing or two about wheel locks and how they can protect your wheels from thieves.
What Are Wheel Locks?
Wheel Locks can be a huge essential to your truck’s safety and security features. They are relatively inexpensive and definitely cheaper than completely replacing your tire accessories.
The installation process is also pretty straight-forward as they are designed to fit in place of your tire’s lug nuts. Whether you want to completely remove all of the lug nuts to install your car locks all comes down to your own personal preference.
The only method of removing these wheel locks is through a specifically tailored key that is included within the set’s packaging. You don’t want to lose it, but should it be misplaced, our service technicians can help you get a replacement.
How Do You Install Them?
Installing wheel locks is much like removing the lug nut from your wheel when you are changing a tire. Except in this instance, you aren’t removing the tire.
You’ll need a tire iron, the original lug nut’s key, the wheel lock, and its locking key to get started. Take off the hub cap–if you have one–and unfastened the original lug nut from your wheel with the tire iron and its specific key. Set it aside in your glove box. You may need it one day.
Then, place the locking nut into the lug nut slot, followed by the new locking key, and fasten it with your tire iron. Repeat these steps with all of the other wheels you wish to secure.
Determining The Right Wheel Lock for Your Work Truck
Since all wheels are not created equal, choosing the right fit is all based on what best fits your truck’s wheels. In order to determine what set of wheel locks are right for you, some of the following must be taken into consideration:
- The size and style of the wheel
- The material and quality of the wheel locks
- How unique the key is
- Customer reviews regarding certain brands
