Installing a hydraulic brake line may sound like a tough job, but it is doable with the right kind of hydraulic line kit. Or if you know the right kind of hydraulic technicians like the ones at Camco Wheel & Axle.
At Camco Wheel & Axle, our hydraulic technicians have been installing hydraulic brake assemblies for years, and it is because of this experience that the procedure seems like second nature. Come put us to the test today, but first, here are the benefits of a hydraulic line kit that you need to know.
What comes in a hydraulic line kit?
Usually, a kit comes with one brake line tubing—sometimes as long as 24 feet—and fittings that are meant to replace one brake – front or rear. Some kits come with a single, tandem, torsion, or spring suspension axle options.
Some of the brake lines may be too short to reach the end of the frame when they are fully unraveled, but some kits may come with an extension line that can be connected to extend it all the way throughout the frame and into the master cylinder. If not, an additional coupler nut with an additional length of stainless steel brake tubing can be ordered separately.
What are the benefits of purchasing or installing a hydraulic line kit?
Normally, hydraulic line kits are used for surge brakes, where the trailer uses natural momentum from being dragged by your towing vehicle to activate the brakes. In other words, when you pump on the brakes in your truck, the trailer will push against the hitch, thus pressing the hydraulic cylinder. The more you slow down, the more pressure is applied to the brakes via the hydraulic cylinder.
Hydraulic line kits are a cheap, effective tool to purchase when replacing brake lines in your surge braking system if you know how to remove the old wiring as per the Department of Transport’s requirements and how to install the new lines.
With a few tools and a little know-how, you can easily remove the older lines and replaced them with the items that come from one of our hydraulic line kits without having to bring it in to a ship, or, of course, you can leave that to the commercial truck parts and upfitting professionals at Camco Wheel & Axle.
